TRIBUTE TO LEON

The Wallasey AGM was held on Monday 26th June, where the season was reviewed and proposals ahead of the new season were put forward by club members. Playoff Semifinals

The quarter finals of the playoffs concluded last night with Alan Kelly triumphing over Saul Marks in their replayed fixture. This time Alan had the white pieces and, after winning the exchange with a deadly pin, turned his attention to Saul's kingside. His knights were able to penetrate deep into his opponent's territory, and aided by the Queen, and a nasty discovered check, he delivered the final blow, forcing a resignation. Alan will now play against Lewis Chatten in the semi final, while Trevor Shaw aims to halt the progress of the favourite, Phil Owen.

Junior Chess Tournament

From next week (22nd May) we will be starting a new Junior Summer Chess League to run alongside the regular Summer Chess League. This will give our growing contingent of junior players a chance to compete for a dedicated prize, as well as opening the door for any new members who wish to join. Similar to our adult league, the structure is rather informal, with players free to attend as little or as often as they like, and to stay and play as many games as they wish per evening. Entry is just £2 and more details can be found …...
