Last Monday (7 July), members gathered for the club’s Annual General Meeting and presentation of awards.
A total of 42 members and 11 guests attended, who were welcomed by President Ron Champion, after which proceedings were chaired by Secretary Craig Jones. A reports pack was provided, so attendees could read the thoughts of the President, Secretary, team captains and Tournament Secretary.
Treasurer Mark Spriggs presented the accounts and it was agreed not to change annual subscriptions for the coming year.
The only change on the committee saw outgoing Club Captain Mike O’Mahony thanked for his year in office and replaced by Mike Coffey.
The remainder of the meeting was taken up with a lively discussion about the internal competitions, with Tournament Secretary Graham Heath’s report drawing a large number of responses from those present. Concerns were raised and various suggestions were debated. Ultimately, the only substantive decision taken was to change the time controls to 75+15 from next season, in line with the Merseyside league and, perhaps in anticipation, the Wirral league too.
After a short interlude, the presentation phase of the evening began, with Graham presiding over the plethora of shields and trophies for winners and runners up. NM Tom Carroll presented to all who were present, including (repeatedly) to his own pupil, Thomas Moran, and new club champion Mike Coffey.
Proceedings concluded just before 10.15pm.
